White House Says Pelosi’s Embrace and Kiss of Joe Biden Was Not “Close Contact”
Officially, close contact means something like being within a few feet for someone a total of 15 minutes over a six-hour span, or something like that. You won't catch covid unless you pick up a high enough concentration or "load," even if you get close to an infected person for a minute or two. The real danger zone is getting into a car or other small, closed space (a sauna, restroom, exam room) where an infected person has been breathing for many minutes and the air is saturated with covid -- THEN it's possible, or even inevitable, that a few breaths will intake enough of a load to cause trouble.

Basically, stay out of small, enclosed, or poorly ventilated spaces where strangers have been, and don't spend several minutes within arm's reach of someone whose covid status is unknown to you, especially in a small, poorly ventilated space.
