The week has been a mixed week for me. Some really good moves up countered several bad down moves.
I decided to add DSS to the list of stocks that I am reporting here. I bought it in early February and it did have almost a three year slowly decending downtrend ending in a quiet period, but why I bought it at the time was that its RSI based on weekly data hit 20, a very oversold value for RSI. This RSI value occurred in mid January and then the RSI began to rise. If you are unfamiliar with RSI, it is a momentum indicator that I have been learning/studying and I believe it can give some pretty good buy signals. I am trying to combine RSI with Ted Warren formations to see if it can increase the likelyhood of success from the time of the buy. In this particular case, I have a 51.74% gain in about eight weeks.
WISA was another stock that I bought this way althought it did not have as long a TW base. However, it did have positive earnings at the time and a fairly good balance sheet. Its RSI only got as low as about 26 or 27 in December of last year, but it indicated a non-conformation of the following new price low in January, that is the RSI was not making a new low at the same time but instead was higher than it was in December. It initially gained over 13% in the first week that I owned it, but now has dropped back into negative territory. We will see how this one turns out in the long run.
Note: RSI can be calculated on data of any frequency. The high the frequency of the day, the faster RSI oscillates between overbought and oversold. The choice of frequency affects what time period the signals are effective. Higher frequency - shorter term, lower frequency - longer term. I settled on weekly data as the one I liked best for my purposes. It is obviously a possibility to start looking at the RSI for a stock at a longer term RSI but check a shorter term RSI to finer tune the buy or sell signal.
