OK. Yes. Great powers always have one. That is what China is in the process of trying to carve out now that it has a navy and a competent air force.

My argument all along has been that is completely naïve to think that Russia or any other world power would allow threatening military on it's borders.

We had something called the Cuban Missile Crisis over the exact same thing. I remember it well even though I was young at the time.

As we proved then and as Russia is proving now, a world power will go down in flames before it would ever allow what the West is trying to do to them. That is why George Kennan warned about this irresponsible type of behavior before he died because he saw it coming.
