In regard to the torture, if true, of course it's a horrible display of human nature. I believe the President put out the word immediately following it that troops were to be treated IAW the Geneva convention.

.....I got the impression (can't verify) that he was reluctantly admitting the atrocity and regretted it..... but given the reality of the times and walking a very fine line, brought that crowd into his military in the name of survival....... with the added hope that he could then exercise some level of control over them............to me that came across as a truthful pragmatic response....plus who knows what got lost in translation?......never heard anything like that out of Putin by the way.............after all, we fought with and called Stalin "Uncle Joe" in WW2 and he killed many MILLIONS of his own people....far more than he killed Nazis.....of course, the oh so perceptive Skinowski saw or sensed none of this.........pity
