WSY, you're free to to think whatever you want, but historically - and geographically - everything to the west from Donbas isn’t “Western” Ukraine. The Dnipro line still leaves the western side larger, but… it makes more sense. You can check it, it must be in wiki.

According to Ritter and other people I read over time, there was no plan to occupy Kiev. Why do I believe them? Because I thought the same exact thing - even before they did. It makes no sense. And I recall posting this here, repeatedly. They would have lost a great number of soldiers and what for? To turn around and walk away? Z and his generals must have been salivation at the thought of 40K Russians trying to take a well defended city of 3.5 million.

Kyiv makes much more sense as a way to pin down Ukrainian military units until they set up further operations, in the East and South. And that’s what they’re doing.
