Interesting… I’m reading a novel called “2034” - about WWIII. One of the coauthors is Admiral James Stavridis. Recommended by our Alan Smithee. Very nice read. Very competently written, in the sense of navy related details, portraits of military and government people and their mixed motivations and mixed up personalities… Anyway, I’m reading the part when one side takes an action - and the logic (math?) of things obliges the other side to counteract, while increasing the level of violence. Just as you describe in your post.
