Only an idiot like Putin could motivate the Swedes and Finns to join NATO. ....yep.... I..... agree...........I would not have ever anticipated those two joining......and I very much doubt they had much inclination before this Ukraine fiasco............now I'll give you my "Scott Ritter" energizer bunny moment..........Putin would have had some/more credibility (with me) had he limited his incursion to just the Donbas.......go in... do WHAT EVER you have to do based on your perceived/actual grievances and then just end it .........but noooooo........in addition to the Donbas, he sends a huge column south out of Belarus to try to encircle (NOT OCCUPY....hear that Skinowski/Ritter.) Kiev from the North and West......sends another colum out of the Donbas westerward to attempt completion of the Kiev encirclement from the east ......sends a large force north out of Crimea and then heads west toward Odessa..........clearly he wants to encircle Kiev forcing eventual capitulation and while waiting take the Donbas and ALSO open a complete Russian link in the south from Rostov on the Don all the way to the Romanian border............he wanted it ALL........gets the Donbas and ALL its mineral wealth and Mariopol seaport to export it from .......water for Crimea..... additional seaports..... a direct land link to SOUTHERN Europe for gas pipeline which TOTALLY eliminates multi $Billion transit payments to Ukraine.......relegating Ukraine to a landlocked backwater which would likely in time beg to rejoin their Russian "brethern".........nothing less than this for our devoutly religious Putin...Ha LOL!...all of this could have been achieved in a month had the Ukrainians not really put up a fight.....I'll guess his generals advised him the Ukrainians probably would not fight hard.... so Putin went in for the price.............BUT what happened?...........his generals were WRONG.......dead wrong....(some even got wacked by Ukrainian snipers and apparently others by a pissed off Putin)................the column out of Belarus was finally stopped COLD just north and west of Kiev with huge losses of men and equipment...........forcing a cowering retreat back to Belarus........also convinced them to halt the column coming toward Kiev from the east out of Donbas given the stiff resistance and logistical problems of a very long and exposed resupply line...........the force coming up from Crimea faced a very stiff firefight in Kherson and then too were stopped cold in Mykolaiv.......with Odessa becoming Russia's "A City Too Far"....(apparently Ukraine now has obtained land to ship missiles good out to about 60 miles from the Brits........I'd guess Odessa is now off the table for the Russkies..................so how about all that Scotty boy!.................so now everything reverts back to the Donbas where it should have been limited to all along....and the Russians deploy their most bad ass General and bad ass tank unit for the task..............most everything favors the Russians here.........open tank country, short resupply lines, I guess a more agreeable population, tremendous numerical advantage in mechanized equipment ...and control of the air .....unless the Ukrainians receive some means to contest in the air, I can't see them holding out too long in the Donbas.........................Slava Ukraini ! navylookout.com
