Interesting video - Aaron Mate interviewing a former Swiss / NATO intelligence officer whose job was to monitor the Warsaw block. He speaks Russian, which gives him some additional insights.

While Zelensky was elected on a platform of peacefully resolving the issues with Donbas (Minsk accords) - and maintaining peace with Russia - he was quickly changed by Ukrainian nationalist extremists - and foreign pressure. Last year, Ukraine's parliament passed a bill to re-conquer Crimea militarily and also to subdue Donbas. Troops were increasingly massed in the South and East.

He says the trigger for the military action by Ukraine was…. Biden's insistence that Russia “WILL” attack, at any moment. Maybe I’m wrong, but in effect, it sounds like he was providing cover to the imminent attack by Ukraine.

The rest we know - Russia recognized independence of Donbas - and put in place a mutual defense agreement. Ukraine was increasingly bombarding Donbas - and the Russian invasion started

Also, not unexpectedly, he also thinks (as does Ritter) that surrounding Kiev was, in part, a conscious strategy of pinning down the Ukrainian army. This man also thinks that part of it was applying pressure on Ukraines political establishment.

I can’t relay all his points; there are many more. Much will become clearer in time, as the fog of propaganda wars clears.
