Comment: The intelligence services have been subject to a process of 'negative selection', whereby ideology becomes valued over objectivity, and pathological types, once they reach a certain threshold within state organs, then select for others of like mind to be placed in positions of power throughout the body politic. Democracy thus becomes pathocracy and it begins to self-destruct.

Some Western politicians obviously wanted there to be a conflict.

Jacques Baud nails many things very well. I think he may be getting carried away with his resentment about governments ignoring the serious, objective intelligence provided by their own intelligence agencies. Leaving alone the situations in individual countries, political leaders (and their appointees) are the ones making decisions. Data supplied by intel agencies is only one of the inputs they consider. And, maybe at this juncture they think that ideology is more important. They have every right to do so - and yes, voters have every right to vote those politicians out.

It’s complicated. At any rate, Baud is one of the few voices that help us understand what is really going on.
