I understand the Russian point of you. I just don’t sympathize with it.

I think they’re living in a paranoid world of fear and distrust and that’s largely why their society is so dysfunctional.

The leadership represents the corruption which goes on day-to-day within that society at a level that would be unacceptable in the western world.

On the other hand, Ukraine has its corruption problems, they may grow out of them if given time. What they didn’t do is willfully enter another country (without warning) and start bombing their cities and killing the people that live there.

So it’s difficult for me to understand why somebody can sympathize with a country that went on such a killing spree unprovoked. Because, the claimed provocation was invented by Russia’s own fear and insecurity.

That’s primarily why I don’t buy the joining UN nonsense, or fear of a western army in Ukraine.

They want the land and resources, they wanted it all, but will likely settle after thousands more die for the wealthiest areas.

Russia needs to change from within. Their thrill of killing for land was meant for the 19th and 20th century, not the 21st.

After a year or more, they will realize the economic price was too high. Even if China buys the energy they need from them. A country needs more than energy to flourish long term. Russia has entered pariah state with all but the dictators of the world.

Cause and effect is something they dismissed along the way, Finland and Sweden joining NATO is one example.
