Technically speaking; Ukraine Soviet Socialist Republic was a founding member of the UN in 1945. The Soviet socialist republic no longer exists. What exists is Russia. Russia formally recognized Ukrainian independence Aug 28, 1991. Therefore, Ukraine is a sovereign and independent nation and Russia attacked them without warning and without even declaring war.

Yes, I saw the films and first hand reports of speculation regarding Ukraine troops bombing a location they were told to go. I also have little doubt there are large groups within Ukraine that feel alignment to Russia. After all, in the big scheme of time, 31 years of independence is not long.

Be that as it may, how Ukraine deals with internal strife is up to the democratically elected Ukrainian government. I’m sure there are indigenous people in Australia, Canada, the American southwest and practically every nation on earth that have people with deep grief of their government. But it doesn’t mean Russia should start bombing and killing everyone to force their view on that democracy, without warning and by lying that they are conducting BS drills. At least negotiate and try and resolve it peacefully with a time table.

Especially when water rights, mineral rights and energy deposits present such a high degree of motivation to steal the land. Follow the money, lots of reports of Putin anger to pay Ukraine gas transportation fees to Europe. Lots of reports of water being needed in Crimea, and tons of reports of large deposits of oil off the southern waters of Ukraine. Couple rare earth minerals, coal and large nuclear plants along with access to a warm water port, provides a huge incentive to just “make shit up” as a reason to invade.
