Re <<I can see why Putin says negotiation is pointless = they don't have a listen and understand function.>>
Again, w/o taking sides on a conflict my dog is not explicitly involved in, and remaining agnostic on the eventually determined why's, whereof's and who did what's when's, I note that in order to have a meaningful negotiation that is full of points, all parties to the conflict, and those hidden behind the parties to the conflict, must come to the table, flushed out of hiding places if need be, by use of arms if necessary, and the populations that put whatever set of leaders made to pain, by inflations, shortages, and whatever other means, else, for sure, negotiation is pointless.
Another way, generically speaking, to make negotiations meaningful is to get to the point of one side about to win and the other close to lost.
Apparently, in the Ukraine situation, neither side is ready to negotiate, and practically speaking, without a change of governments all around, no leadership can afford to enter negotiations from position of perceived weakness.
Negotiation, the meaningful sort, shall happen, just not soon, my guess, because the conditions for such is not yet in place. |
