Great video.

Really enjoyed the bit about the mine owners making huge silver balls to prevent theft…and the robbers complaining to the owners!

My grandfather was born in what’s now a ghost silver mining town, Shafter, Tx.

I visited once. The sole ‘character’ there had numerous ‘keep out!’ signs, not that anyone had a reason to go there. It was abandoned (except for the ‘character’) when I visited eons ago but it has a small population now that I think is doing a bit of silver mining.

My great grandfather was instrumental in nearby Terlingua and its cinnabar mining operation. Cinnabar is the source of mercury, which was in huge demand during WWI as it was used in blasting caps for artillery shells. Unfortunately, my relative sold out before the boom, which created enormous wealth.

Now, all that’s left is the Terlingua Chili Festival, if you like trashy redneck fun.

There’s actually a great hotel with an attached fantastic restaurant in nearby Marathon. The Gage Hotel is da bomb. Been going there since I was child.
