I didn't "approach" them at all. I simply read competent studies performed in what I judged to be statistically sound analyses, and I found them both to be better than the alternative (which was, in effect, doing nothing -- telling patients to go home and come back to the hospital when they're dying, and can no longer live without a ventilator). It was the dumbest fucking thing I've ever seen in my entire life.
