I'm surprised about the vices thing. I've found the opposite. I always joke that poor people can't pay their bills, barely feed the kids but always have a cigarette and a beer in their hand while they complain about how broke they are.
Liquor and tobacco used to be the place to invest during a recession. MO and BUD always did well in the old days.
