| | | The problem with old people running the show (Gerontocracy) is that by the time they reach the average life expectancy territory - the odds for something to go wrong go up. They call it average life expectancy for a reason. Diseases, both chronic and unexpected… ever changing energy levels - all those unpredictable “bad days and good days”. Lack of mental flexibility. The attractions of treating their positions as sinecures. And so on.
Indian PM, Modi, is in his 70’s, but seems energetic, smart - innovative, even. That’s great. Trump was like that, but he disrupted the ongoing power narrative - and was met with overwhelming hatred. Reagan was like that - with his love for the country and her people. He was hated by the Left, but was able to keep direct attacks at a minimum.
But, most of our old people currently in power aren’t very impressive. A bunch of bench warmers - power brokers, enjoying too much the positions they shouldn’t be holding.
The corrupt, partisan, unprofessional media people need to be - as LB would’ve likely suggested - shunned. They have to be despised - and forced to look for other jobs. Dem voters must understand that politics isn’t like rooting for the home team - dishonesty and corruption hurt everyone. I hope many of them are learning a thing or two over the past few years. |
