youtu.be
He is a must-listen-to wise man who predicted the Ukraine conflict many years ago, correctly said why, describing each step along the way.
Those who, like me, thought that Russia’s turn to the east meant that the beginning of the end of the conflict was at hand will be disappointed.
Mearsheimer sees no definite predictable resolution to the conflict, except for hugely increased dangers of a much larger conflagration caused by an intractable Russia, an intractable USA, and a Ukraine who can’t sue for peace even if it wanted to.
Russia is intractable because it cannot have NATO on its border.
The US is intractable because, in my view, American public opinion has been so expertly maneuvered into demanding Putin’s demise that we cannot back down. It is a very effective propaganda technique to convince sheeple that they are doing the right thing, that they are virtuous by demanding war against Putin, that Putin is the next iteration of Adolf Hitler, and that anyone who opposes this view is a Nazi.
Idiots.
Of course, Putin is an ogre. No one disputes that. But there are bigger considerations. Like preventing a wider, more dangerous, conflict. As Mearsheimer says, and he knows better than anyone, this is existential for Russia. And a far away piece of real estate for us, I would add, that has zero strategic significance to America.
Ukraine according to Mearsheimer is manipulated by the US. It cannot sue for peace if it wanted to.
So, all participants keep going, with escalation on the part of all sides being the only option. Where will the escalation lead to? Who knows. Nothing good. It would not be surprising at all if Russia used tactical nukes in Ukraine if things go badly for it. If that happens, the US response has to be very wise.
But there are no statesmen on either side, and Biden is the worst President in decades, if not centuries. Thus, the possibility of a much larger war, one involving our troops, is definitely on the menu.
All this thanks to manipulated American public opinion.
Remember Iraq?
God help the world when American public opinion is manipulated into believing that it is acting on the side of the angels. Nothing good seems to ever come of it. |
