>>RE: Zip Heads Make Contact with Media Surface?<<

Michael -

Most of the sources you cite seem to indicate that the heads do NOT make contact.

as in, "Zip drives use floppy-style flexible media and hard drive-style magnetic read-write heads. The Zip is not based on Iomega's Bernoulli technology."

I had thought that the Zip used Bernoulli tech. This indicates that it doesn't. But hard drive-style magnetic read-write heads don't contact the disk surface.

Also, HP's white paper comparing the Zip with the LS-120 indicates that the Zip is more reliable, citing the fact that LS-120's heads do make contact with the disk surface as the reason.

Other than Cheeky's post saying that Iomega says they do, I haven't seen anything anywhere to indicate that Zips heads ride the media.
