When I objectively look at LatAm social structure, inequality, and abuses of the wealth/power, I am surprised they did not go full socialist blast already. But I suppose that has to do with all the US interventions. Nonetheless, the situation there is not sustainable. They will go through a few iterations of socialist/capitalist regimes until a happy medium is found. That is unless the US interferes with their development, as it has always done so far. But America having less of an appetite for intervention these days, they may do better than before.

The key to success, both in nature and in the society, is evolution. And evolution requires mobility, freedom to experiment, and low costs of failure. A free winner takes all system is volatile, but still viable. But a rigid system, such as in LatAm or China, is a losing one. Pondering The Great Gatsby curve is illuminating.
