It seems that Lavrov is telling it like it is. We see the USA reasoning and positions right here in SI = intransigent, obdurate, hubris, bullying, ignorant, arrogant, foolish, malevolent, illogical, and dangerous.

He said it could be useful to hold talks with the U.S., “but we don’t see any interest from their side in contacts regarding Ukraine or other issues.”

The USA wants to continue the war, and of course does because USA/NATO can easily beat Russia in regular warring, and USA bosses are insane and just love war, going from one to the other, without missing a week. There might have been a few weeks during my life that USA was not busily doing military attacks somewhere or other. They simply love war.

Most Americans believed the WMD lies. And now they are fully foaming at the mouth over Putin and Russia. They've been going nuts over Russia Russia Russia for years now. The bosses put it on CNN and other Fake News Main Stream Media, and Americans start drooling like Pavlov's dogs. "Let's get Russia!!!"

It's an easy sell. USSR was the big bad enemy for most of the 20th century, understandably so. But since Gorby, USSR/Russia ceased being a serious threat and did not have an ideological foundation of communism though Gorby said he was a communist, but he was not willing to murder swarms to enforce it. So they dumped the USSR.

I don't see a way around going to nuclear war for Russia. Continuing with conventional war, they'll continue being attacked with better and better weaponry. Russia took the Ukraine bait, presumably thinking that though they were aware it was a trap, they could prevail anyway, or at least make such a big mess that the opposition would regret their decisions.

So I expect Russia will have an escalation process of small tactical to bigger and bigger depending on whether the horrible Boris, Biden, Ursula van den Kraut, Herr Gruppenfuhrer Stoltenberg go big and bigger too, or finally decide that the radioactive nuclides are starting to blow around the northern hemisphere a bit too much, especially if some have gone off in Nevada or off the coast of San Diego in tsunami form, or maybe as suitcase bomb in downtown Peoria, to get the message through to the thick-headed.

The idea that Russia will surrender is absurd. See 1812 Overture, Charge of the Light Brigade, Babarossa, Kaiser's efforts in WWI..

As in Japan, the use or atomic bombs might get the message through. Russia delivering a similar blow to USA will make them think a bit more seriously and should stop the war quickly because USA has a LOT more to lose than does Russia.

Just in population for a start = USA has 330 million to lose, Russia has only 140 million to lose, and the Russians are much more spread out.
In near to home terms, Russia is being attacked right there, whereas USA has to travel half way around the world to join in the fighting. So incentive to fight is vastly greater for Russians.
In economic losses to be had = USA is 20 or more times Russia's economy and GDP per capita is hugely more in USA than Russia. USA has a LOT to lose. Russia, not so much.
In existential terms = Russia is do or die. USA is just doing bear baiting as a bit of fun between episodes of Amber Heard and Johny Depp, or between Oscar slap shows.
In obliteration area in full out nuclear war, China and Russia will both deliver all their weapons to USA/Eurostan, with a few for Australia and NZ, here and there, Japan, South Korea, So there would be more obliteration per capita in USA than in China/Russia combined. Japan is probably not looking forwards to being an atomic bomb target again but they will be. Actually, it would be such a mess that none could be said to be winners, even if Russia/China are a bit less obliterated.

Russia better start firing some atomic bombs before too many get too entrenched in the idea of grinding Russia down and getting comfortable with the absurd situation USA/NATO have created.

I guess the first nuclear explosions will be in Ukraine or maybe in Poland where deliveries are coming from. But locations near USA would be more persuasive of the grave danger of continued failure by USA/Eurostan to negotiate.
