Paintbrush you are right that the Hebrew Bible is actually an assembly of laws and stories which reflects human nature. Eliminate the "God" that is so many times mentioned in the writing and you will discover a fascinating reflection on human nature, hopes and wishes - good or bad.

The interpretations are many and not in line with the intent of the writers as mentioned in my other posts. Unfortunate on this tread are too many overly smart people failing to understand the writings and dismissing them as old and worthless.
