I'm aware of the salt laws and that they were very annoying to the locals. New Zealand had and still has swarms of such laws and worse. Communism and bossy kleptocratic bastards are always with us, to a greater or lesser extent.

India is still loaded with such salty kleptocratic laws. Being robbed and enslaved by Idi Amin, Robert Mugabe or your local yokel maharajah isn't actually any better than the foreign office in Whitehall. I'd say a lot worse.

The British killed umpty million fewer in China and India than were killed in Mao's maelstrom and Indian bulk killings, during partition for example. Hong Kong became the best country in the world under British rule.

India was going well with capitalism and Great Britain. It ground to a halt when the British left and the socialist kleptocratic people took over. Same as happened in not so great Britain as socialism/communism took over = the British disease

The way things are going in Aotearoa-Zimbabwe, give it a year or 10 and I might vote to be annexed by China. They are less tolerant of criminals and won't pay for more to be produced.
