I think it’s simpler - Mr Advisor is a complex man. He is a Ukrainian nationalist. He thinks that Ukrainians are a very talented people - the “true Russians”, actually - the descendants from the Kiev Rus. But, he also knows their weakness and suggestibility.

I’ll link below a video where he calls Zelensky a cretin - and complains that 70% of Ukrainians voted for a guy who said he doesn’t like war, and he’s gong to stop it. Arestovych thinks that the way for Ukraine to achieve greatness is by winning the long war with Russia, which will last for 10 years, including some “”hot phases”.

So… he despised Zelensky for running on a peace ticket - and Ukrainians, for voting for him [which, btw, also suggests that the majority wanted peace]. I take it, after having been elected, Zelensky got the message and forgot the peace agenda. So, Arestovych is now his advisor. I think he’s a very smart - but also a heartless, cynical man, focused on big ideas. A dangerous kind of an intellectual.
