| | | For the most part, I agree with your post. This global hegemony business is an extremely expensive and dangerous undertaking, and sooner or later it will get us into hot water. Something will go wrong - it’s a matter of time. Besides, all those trillions add up - and debt, at some point, will damage our economy and the international standing.
Now, our relations with India are cooling off - because they refused to support Russian sanctions. It’s the most populous nation in the world, with a growing economy. The Chinese gladly jumped in - and are working out their problems with India, and want to be friends. Do we really need that? Between the two of them, we’re looking at a population of close to 3 Trillion. India is reform minded, and is likely to become a larger player in the future.
I think when President Trump spoke about America First - he primarily meant taking care of the nations problem, getting the Gov spending under control, and so on - rather than going overseas looking for monsters to slay…. getting involved in multiple conflicts in every part of the planet. |
