Tenchu's Thoughts: Why Should We Give A Brandon About Ukraine, Part 9 - Rise of the Hillaryhawks
Pelosi Visits Kyiv, Meets With Ukraine President | HuffPost Latest News
Pelosi Visit to Ukraine Signals Growing U.S. Resolve Against Russia - The New York Times (nytimes.com)
Now that world leaders feel free to visit Kyiv, Pelosi decided to take her own team of politicians there. While the Democrats are celebrating her "stunning and brave" trip, I noticed one thing that the mainstream media won't bring up.
She only invited Democrats on this secret trip, including Schiff for Brains Adam and Jim McGovern.
That's telling. Either she never invited the Republicans along on this super-secret trip, or she did and the Republicans refused.
Either way, this means that the Ukraine war just turned into a partisan issue. And it's almost comical the way it's played out.
Democrats: PRO-WAR, PRO-UKRAINE, PRO-FREEDOM Republicans: ANTI-WAR, PRO-RUSSIA, PRO-POOTIN
You know what that means?
Yep, THE HILLARYHAWKS ARE BACK!!!
The same Hillaryhawks who became "tough on North Korea" when Trump wanted to initiate dialogue with his "new best friend," Kim Jong-un.
The same Hillaryhawks who pretended to care oh-so-much about the Kurds back when Trump wanted out of Syria.
The same Hillaryhawks who whined about Trump pulling out of Afghanistan too early. (They were the ones who then extended the original withdrawal timeline, only to pull it in once again when the Taliban rose up and completely embarrassed America.)
Now the Hillaryhawks are jumping on board the Zelensky bandwagon and promising to send billions of dollars in military aid, all because it's the "cool thing" to do.
And because the "right-wing wokies" are siding with PooTin and his war of choice, Pelosi wants to milk this political gift for all it's worth.
The Coming Proxy War
Now I've already covered how America's role in the Ukraine war is shifting: Tenchu's Thoughts: Why Should We Give A Brandon About Ukraine, Part 8 - Mission Creep
The thing is, it's not just me, either. The NYTimes reported that in Europe, there is a sense that the U.S. is dragging everyone into a different war.
"To help Ukraine prevail is not about waging war against Russia for reasons related to its governance. ... Regime change may be a vision, but not a war aim," said a French military analyst.
The NYTimes also reports that Pelosi and the Democrats can't (or won't) define what "victory" looks like. She said, "America stands with Ukraine. We stand with Ukraine until victory is won. And we stand with NATO."
But what are we Americans aiming for?
A complete victory where Russia gets out of all of Ukraine, including Crimea, with its tail between its legs? (You know, like what America did in Afghanistan?)
Or something like forcing Russia back to the negotiating table and maybe letting them continue to occupy Ukrainian land in exchange for a cease-fire?
Because it's clear to me that Zelensky will not stop until all Russian occupiers have been kicked out of Ukraine.
Are we willing to back him up every step of the way, or will our commitment waver as the war drags on, and as atrocities start to pile up on both sides of the war? (It's naive to think that Ukraine will be fighting a "clean" war on their end. What if, for example, a Russian civilian airliner is downed thanks to Azov?)
Because if there is one constant in modern American foreign policy, it's that America OFTEN breaks its own promises out of convenience, just like any other nation in the history of the civilized world.
Bottom Line
The bottom line is this: The Democrats now want to turn Ukraine into a proxy war between America and Russia, just as I feared back before PooTin even began this war of choice.
If that's the goal, fine. If our goal in Ukraine is to make Russia continue to waste lives and money so that they can't pose any significant threat to NATO, that's OK as well.
Just don't go into this proxy war with eyes wide shut.
Fight it to WIN. Or don't fight it at all.
Meanwhile, step up the efforts to fight Cold War 2.0. I still don't see ANYONE in the Brandon administration willing to step up. Everything is all about Brandon "leading from his behind."
