Andrew is right. The mass-storage of choice for backups would be DAT (or other tape media such as DLT or 4mm). The storage capacity of such tapes are on the order of $1/GB, with transfer speed between 500KB/sec to 2MB/sec.

As Andrew correctly points out, the Quest would make sense where there's a need for good random access time. Most backup/restore scenarios do not.

I have to admit to adding backups (on Quest's) as an afterthought. I was thinking more about jukebox applications for on-line data storage when my mind went off on a tangent and started thinking of backups.
