I remember talking about this event - I'm a little fuzzy on it. Happened in a spot that we traversed.

We spent the night at Camp Muir. (That Muir guy was everywhere.)

When we broke out above the clouds it was like being in a jet looking down on them. You could see the area where St. Helens was because of the lightning. There are steam vents coming through cracks in the snow way up there. The crater is a flat area - not too deep. Filled with snow. The other guys brought a Frisbee to toss up there.

I had altitude sickness. When we got back to the Paradise parking lot, I felt so much better by comparison, that I had no problem driving back to Seattle. My partner in the car slept the whole way and was amazed that I could drive. Worst facial sunburn I ever had - blisters. I wasn't the only one.
