Mt. St. Helens erupted at 8:32 that morning (May 18, 1980) and the Ash cloud could be seen as far away as Montana and Cali.

I have always regretted not pulling over on the side of the freeway to watch it for awhile, and also the fact I didn't have a camera. It's a really interesting story for those who might not know that much about it.

At the time we live approximately 100 miles north of the mountain and only had a slight sprinkling of ash. The people of Yakima fared much worse.
