Why would Russia be admitted to a principally anti-Russian military alliance?
Precisely - it used to be anti-Soviet, but quickly became anti-Russian. Why? Maybe because the Grand Chessboard strategists and generals didn’t want to look for other jobs — and weapons manufacturers didn’t want to see their markets shrink. Ditto about NATO - a military organization cannot exist without at least some potential adversaries. Can’t have funding without animosities.
