The problem is, these things single out a marginalized group. And there are those who use that as encouragement for violence. The history of that is undeniable.

Indeed. We know what the problem is. The question is how to deal with it and that gets us no closer.

I continue to think that part of the problem is that the asks are too strident. They irritate rather than persuade. In regulations regarding such matters, the ever present phrase is "reasonable accommodation."
