Everything NATO and the U.S. do in relation to this Russia - Ukraine war seems predicated on the conviction that nukes will not be used. I very much hope it doesn’t happen, but if things get desperate for Russia, it becomes very likely. That’s why I define victory in this war as “”no nukes used; the world survives””. Everything else - screw them, they’ve been fighting and merging and reshaping borders hundreds of times, for thousands of years. Let them sort it out. Why should my family be at risk for those fcuk ups? It’s easy to have a sh*tty little war. There are always reasons. But for a global blowup, you need defense alliances.
