I would like to post a Wednesday night edition to Sunday's Tell Me Something Good. Last Friday I came down sick with some heavy chest congestion with an intense head cold. As is my wont, I immediately proceeded to attack it with medication and as of today, I only have a slight congestion and some fatigue. I even mowed the lawn today. The reason I bring it up is because I tested myself for COVID and the test was positive, causing me to have to isolate until the symptoms are gone and I test negative. A second test was also positive, just in case I had muffed the first test.
Now why would I say it is something good? Seems like COVID is far from something good. I am fully vaccinated and boosted. I had my flu shot last fall. I masked up when going out in public. I was well protected. Anti-vaxxers and anti-maskers would say after all I did for two years to keep myself safe, and I still got the disease. It must not work.
But that is the whole point of the vaccines. They don't stop the disease. They stop the disease from killing you. I am 71 years old with autoimmune system deficiencies and without the vaccines, I'm pretty sure I would be in the obits today rather than on my mower. Also, I live in Illinois, so if Trump** had been re-elected, I know he would have done everything in his power to slight the Democratic states and favor the Republican states with any vaccines, boosters, healthcare, etc.
Trump** would have killed me as sure as if he had shot me on 5th Avenue. I am thankful today for modern science. I am thankful for 81 million Americans voting for Biden. I am thankful for an administration who cared about ALL of Americans and not just MAGA Americans. Because of the vaccines, a COVID infection was nothing more than a typical chest cold for me. Anti-vaxxers can suck it.
