The point of the Boston Chicken article seems to be that if an
nvestor only looks at a few "key numbers" they may be misled.

Prudent investors would have looked further and found that loan
loss reserves were not being set up, despite the apparent need.

I appreciate the responses I've received, tips for books on
this topic.

Apparently the people managing funds do not have the time or
ability to perform the thorough analysis that members on this
thread are capable of. Or perhaps they just ignore it, since
in these times many of these stocks seem to have a momentum
of their own and they just wish to join the crowd and cash
in. (I see even that fellow Mohan has started doing this
today with his AOL calls.) ;-)

I do agree that the analysts' opinions seem to lag the action,
not predict it. I follow Oracle. There was recently a big
drop from 32 to 22, and then to 18. At that point they should
have come out and said it was a good buy. Amazingly, at that
point they downgraded it. Then today when it hit 28 I noticed
a major firm has come out with an upgrade.

So I see what you mean.
