Cheap chips ship.... Scrapps posted a Rockwell press release: "Rockwell Semiconductor Systems Ships V.90-Based 56K BPS Modem Chipsets" Looks like the same chips which they were shipping before, so it's just the coding change. Also, note that these chips are shipping to Rockwell's customers who still have to integrate them into their end product. Of course, those same customers can presumably download the new code, and load it into their old chips sitting in the inventory channel. I haven't succeeded in finding it, but don't I remember another Rockwell press release sometime last week warning about the dangers of shipping V.90 without complete compatibility testing? Wasn't that Rockwell, the same company who wasn't doing interoperability testing with COMS and LU? Or do I mis-remember.... Hmmm.... $42.50 in OEM quantity (presumably 10K or even 100K units). That gives you a pretty good limit on the margin that a Rockwell integrator (say, ZOOM or DIMD or BOCA) can make on their modems, doesn't it. Dick
