I’ve always thought that the attraction of gambling comes from the need for unconditional love. That’s what one wants as a child.

As a “gambling age” grownup, a person wants to win against the odds - because that would be proof that higher powers vapor him. Or her.

Going to Ukr investing… this approach worked out brilliantly for many “investors” in Russia. That’s how the Oligarch billionaires made their billions. One of them was Bill Browder. He went to Russia and started doing the same as the local oligarchs. For a while, he ran the most successful hedge fund in the world. But, he was getting too big - and no one wanted foreigners to have too big a footprint in Russia's economy. They found a reason to kick him out, leaving the field to their own domestic rascals.

The word is, btw, that Putin is very happy about the sanctions against the Russia's super rich. They’ve been becoming too powerful. Who wants too many clowns like George Soros or Zuckerberg?
