I think it’s not so much about democracy as about what the key players among the elites perceive as what’s best. They’re steering the boat - and are willing to take great risks… on our behalf. A moment ago I posted a talk with Scott Ritter Message 33843707 Many people think he’s controversial - I don’t really see that. He’s a well informed, thoughtful guy who has a lot of experience in these matters. Until now, he didn’t think that the influx of weapons and money could change the course of the war. In this talk yesterday he modifies his views. If he’s right, we can expect more extensive mobilizations on both sides. That may cancel - or at least delay - the horrible “next stage”. Also, he thinks Finland will be a problem. At the very least, they would need to militarize their entire border with Russia - which, as I recall, goes all the way up, well north of Murmansk. Since they cannot do it themselves, this would require rather massive NATO presence - which opens yet another whole new can of rockets. I think the world needs - immediately - to take some time out and decide how far we all want to go. It would appear that the very fact that Russia is having so much difficulty with Ukraine should serve as proof that - at least, when using conventional means - they’re hardly such a great threat to Europe or to anyone.
