Jojo, i tried to be humorious about what i found to be a human interest story about the trials of being the last buffalo:) i think things like Tera should live on, like the Shaker Village near where i live. so tourists can take their kids to see what it was like when individuals pioneered supercomputing. in no way do i think that facilities outside the NSF/DOE funded farms should be distracted by such quaint goings on.
several years ago, SGI pulled a fast one on a nun who had set up an art center inside one of the NSF centers. they sold her several million dollars in hardware, promising her that they would direct all to the facility for training. as soon as the check cleared, SGI reneged, and set up it's Silicon Studio training facilities. there are still a few government officials who fund things like Tera, as payback. and since the day that Ed was told not to mistreat nuns with supercomputers, in the office of the VP of the US, SGI has tried to be more aware who they were dealing with.
