Hardie board is a great option. I don't have it but I would use it if I needed new siding on any house where I now live - PNW. I have cedar siding, which I like a lot.

The downside is vulnerability to woodpeckers, so I have shiny things hanging at a corner of my house, which move in the slightest wind, to keep them away. They only annoy me during mating season now, banging on the metal chimney cap for attention. No real harm.
