The system in Canada is even worse.

Regardless of how it is handled, there is a need for continuous tracking of your health and nudging it in the right direction. Over time, this will save more money for the insurance companies than just treating the illnesses. One comprehensive exam (the kind that I am looking for) once every 5 - 10 years is enough. Little tests in between can fill the gaps. More than 20 years ago optometrists here started taking photos of retinas for record keeping. It costs relatively little and you only need to do it once every 10 years or so to compare with how you were. The same should be done for your brain and other critical body parts.
