You seem to write better essays when arguing against particular ideas or in more closely reviewing them.
I would add to "You are what you think you are, so be careful what you think you are".
What we are is chimpoid brain limbic systems with a large cognitive function cerebral cortex, which is able to supervise our animal functions. We have multiple functions in competition in our brains, much as you described the individual versus the collective.
So we have collective society rules, versus individual executive function, versus limbic system individual drives. All are as real as the other. They are increasingly systematised and built into our brain DNA by sexual selection and other DNA creation and filtering mechanisms.
In biblical terms = blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the Earth.
Successful balancing of those multilayered functions gives us the fantastic human development we have and enjoy now. It's so amazing that we can now take on cosmic challenges such as incoming asteroids and becoming multi-planet species.
Not only that, we're well into building the next layer of extra-somatic intelligence in silicon, gallium, solid state physics and software aka artificial intelligence, with an infinite array of sensors to provide input.
Meanwhile we're resolving the social collective systems which remain in chimpoid tribal warring mode, albeit with more negotiation and reduced killing. But MAD remains a real threat so we're not there yet.
It looks as though the Ukraine war is resolving without MAD or total war.
If my solution had been adopted BEFORE the Russian invasion in frustration at Zelensky and co being intransigent, then Donetsk, Luhansk could have been happily independent, Crimea could have remained Russian, and Ukraine could have been Swiss neutral.
Now I guess Eastern and South Ukraine will be subsumed into Russia, just as my ancestral Alsace went from France to Germany and back to France.
I doubt that Russia will leave them to independence having gone to all this trouble.
Henry Kissinger now agrees with me, as do many others in USA, so it looks as though that's going to be the resolution.
It was a dumb and evil idea to use Ukraine to attack Russia. Kissinger even understands that Russia has been forced into possession of China and that that is a bad outcome for Americans and Euroserfs who are already whining like a fleet of Koreans about the availability and price of methane and oil.
Russia was forced to agree umpty $billion sales to China instead of to Euroserfs.

PS....AND we can now do genetic engineering so women can even have control over their children rather than get some bloke with hidden genetic defects. They will even be able to add genes for intelligence, not just eliminate bad ones such as cystic fibrosis and myriad other DNA disasters. |
