"A tipster tiptoeing through the land of Layer 3 switching says Cisco has a new tactic in its much anticipated Layer 3 strategy: FUD. Cisco reportedly told one of its major customers that the Gigabit Ethernet standards were undergoing a major overhaul and as a result the stable of startups developing Layer 3 products would have to make new ASICs--a time-consuming process that would delay all the upstarts' products. That gave the customer some pause, until it found out Cisco was just blowing smoke. The tipster figures Cisco's just stalling until it can get competing products from its Granite acquisition out the door."

I hate it when that happens!

Gig delayed, perhaps, but not because new ASICs are needed. Simply a light problem on MMF, termed as DMD. Cisco spreading FUD! GASP, I'm taken back, never!

Tom, a Bay Bigot!
