In principle, I agree with you. That is my thought process as well, and I don't have plans to sell my assets either, beyond using them to reallocate to div payers.

Do you agree then, that the idea of 60/40 equity/bond portfolios, or whatever said allocation, is really designed for those that do not plan on doing what we are doing? That they are planning to hold on to the gains they have accumulated (principal stability) to sell off later for direct retirement funding?

What other reason could there be? I don't think I am missing anything, but...
