as long as Taiwan doesn’t try to become officially independent, they have no interest in interfering in their affairs.
I think the calculus in Bejing has changed in the past 6 months.

Power struggle among the CCP leadership, as well as a collapsing economy due to the property market debacle, means the populace has to be distracted, if not placed in a position where any dissent against the CCP is clearly seen as treason in light of a war in Taiwan.

It also may be Bejing's means of signaling the US that if we don't bail them out, they'll take us to war.
