Bill, didn't you read Mac OS Rumors today, with the e-mail from the Motorola employee who is talking about an agreement to allow cloners back in 18-months from now? Are you doing your homework like the rest of us? It never seems like it. (And before Alomex jumps in here, everything on Rumors is to be taken with a grain of salt, I know.)
Would it help if you start looking at Apple as a company that in some real ways is separate from the pc world? Apple is of the world but also is not of the world.
They aren't going to be able to fight the market share wars, not now. It's a windmill you are tilting at.
Can somebody find Bill that "Macintosh as low-end workstation" article from last year? The gist of it was that Apple is more of a company like SGI or SUNW, with the disadvantage of no memory protection but the advantage of shrinkwrapped software.
They said IBM was dead too and mainframe sales then surged and it bought Lotus and found new markets, etc. Apple has products right now that seem to finally be causing the real upgrade cycle that we've been waiting over a year for. And plenty of new possibilities with $999 pcs, handhelds, NCs, flat screen monitors, educational software, et al.
