Sam, by testing waste water, jurisdictions can determine the general presence and rates of growth of pathogens in various areas, including for example new strains of a virus. It can be very helpful to pinpoint towns, cities and neighbourhoods within cities in which aggressive treatment and containment policies may be needed. It doesn’t identify specific individuals who have a virus but does reveal where prevention policies are most needed, and where a new strain of a virus may be gaining a strong foothold.

Also, for what it’s worth, I have personally seen boxes of Zenguard masks sold off the counter in two Mark’s stores that were not included on the list of ‘selected’ stores posted yesterday.
