Wow, that's a lot of garlic! I got about half that. I mulched mine in heavy this winter and through this dry windy spring we've had. They look great. Mulch holds the moisture in and cut wind damage down.

I came up with a home brew fertilizer....plus the usual goat poop I get from a neighbor and horse poop courtesy of my wife's horses, I mix up soybean meal, cottonseed meal, some wood ashes and blood meal. Plants responding immediately. Really great on the fruit trees.

Drought down here is terrible. Rain and snow all around us but nothing for us. Has to do with a big blob of cold water in the central Pacific...La Nina. Kicking the precipitation to the north.

You are right about the cumulative improvements in the garden if you keep at it consistently. I have some nice big showy plants that were puny little things the last couple of years, better soil, fewer weeds.

Glad to hear you made it safely back from Texas to your wonderful place up north there.

I'm taking a little time out to enjoy the NHL playoffs. My team still in it. Stanley Cup, baby!

And go COHU.
