Don, I love Mt. Rainier, but my favorite hikes are on the Olympic Peninsula. I've done some traverses, and I don't think you can find hikes that offer so much variety in scenery. You start in the rain forest, go through some magnificent sub-alpine hanging valleys, cross the lip of a glacier, and emerge in beautiful wild rhododendron forests. Other great hikes are in the Alpine Lakes region and North Cascades.
