My personal view is that the vaccines helped at first, but degenerated into useless over time as new variants appeared.

However, I don't think we can discount that the first found of vaccines -- delivered in record time -- had substantial effect on diminishment of the virus.

I question the sensibility of what was done later, and while my wife and I did end up getting a booster, that was it for us.

I'm sure it will be years before anyone really figures how just how well it performed. But it was pretty much the only useful measure for a time.
