Craig,

The market for low cost PC's, set top boxes, etc. is about to go through the roof. As a result, low cost, medium performance x86 microprocessors are in huge demand.

Some examples:

1. Media GX revolutionized the sub-$1000 market. It was derived from the Cyrix 5x86, which began it's life as a 486, came in a 486 pinout, and was renamed to 5x86 only because the M1 was late.

2. Fuchi reported that ACER is manufacturing it's own 386 for $199-$499 PC's.

3. Brian Halla's announcement in Israel last week about NSM's plans for super-low cost systems.

Reality is that a super-low cost (small) die is essential for this market space. If IDT (or anyone else) can provide such a processor in quantity, they stand a good chance of being successful.
