Alex, I am pretty sure that there are fewer 300 year old trees now than 100 years ago. The live oak trees around here are some of the oldest on Earth. Live oaks grow very slowly. The oldest tree on Earth is about 12 miles from me. I has been core drilled and estimated to be 1000 years old! Here is a link rockport-fulton.org Click on the big tree.

There is a company, that Christine led me to, that makes plastic lumber from recycled plastic. It's symbol is ecpl, and has a thread here Subject 12675 . I have seen some of their material used at the Aransas wildlife refuge near here for decking, and it is holding up real well above the salt water there.
